The first #FeatureFriday of the New Year goes to the stunning AwesomenessLu. She's a beautiful woman and a talented cosplayer from Southern Alberta. Read her interview below!
How and when did you get into cosplay?
I first got into cosplay about 2-3 years ago. after going to my very first convention and seeing all the other cosplayers (which wasn't as many back then) I just knew I had to try it, I've always loved dressing up!
How did you come up with your cosplay name?
It's actually not my official name yet..... I'm currently still thinking of an official cosplay name but so far everyone seems to like awesomenesslu so it may just stick. It's actually my gamer handle I first came up with it about 6 years ago already. Fun fact! The lu at the end actually stands for my real name!
What do your friends and family think of your hobby?
Most of my friends and family accept it. My boyfriends parents/family don't accept it as much, which is why I feel the need to work that much harder at it just to prove this "hobby" can in fact be a career.
If you're still cosplaying in 10+ years, do you think it will have an effect on your cosplay choices, or the characters you choose to portray?
Oh absolutely! As the years go on there will be new characters that come out that I'll fall in love with or out of love with. Let's hope I'll be more talented by then! Haha.... I also change my mind a lot on what or who I want to cosplay!
What do you do when you're not in cosplay or geeking out?
I currently have no job, so if I'm not cosplaying or working on a cosplay I'm playing video games. Which I am working on a twitch and YouTube channel for.
How do you choose your next cosplay?
Picking from a very long list or even a character that just came out. I mostly try to keep up with what's popular at the time but also choosing from characters that I like or what my friends are into for group cosplays!
Who is your cosplay idol/inspiration?
I don't think I can say it's one specific person yes of course my best friend is the one who inspires me the most but it's seeing others cosplay that motivates me. Sometimes when I get down and just don't feel like cosplaying I'll just go and watch a bunch of cosplay YouTube videos from cons and it instantly makes me happy!
What is your dream cosplay?
Erza's heavens wheel armor from fairy tail! Ever since I've seen it I knew one day I would have to make it! Which will hopefully be soon now that I know how.
Do you have any cosplay or convention pet peeves?
Yes!!! Oh boy where to start...... when other attendees take a picture without asking or when you're eating.
Do you have any horror stories or mistakes you've made that others can learn from?
SEAL YOUR FOAM! haha when I first made armor I looked at tutorials and what not but no one really said what the proper steps were to make it, so I bought this clear coat sealant spray only to find out it still cracked! I now know to use plasti dip or modge podge or something like that..... I'm also starting to learn spray paint is not as good to paint your armor with!
Do you have any tips or words of encouragement for other cosplayers?
Don't listen to the haters and never give up!
Where can we find you on all things social?
So glad I finally got her up on the blog!! She's such an amazing person. Love you, Lu!
