I got the amazing opportunity to be a cosplay judge at Animethon this year. Read on to find out what I thought about this experience! Photo by Nanc Price Photography I went to Animethon on the Friday and the Saturday. Friday I got to experience the expo as a guest, although I spent most of the day getting photos with our awesome Pokemon group! Saturday was the big day when I got my first opportunity to judge a cosplay contest. We spent the morning doing pre-judging and it was so hard! Everyone was so bubbly and awesome and had such cool stories for their cosplays. I loved seeing them all up close.
The afternoon was the stage contest which was happening simultaneously during the Crossplay Pageant. It was a unique concept and it actually worked really well. The usual gaps during contests for judge deliberation was filled with the next segment of the alternating contest. So the time seemed to fly by without the hosts trying to awkwardly entertain the crowd with bad stand up comedy. Luckily, our hosts were absolutely awesome and just added the fun factor to the shows! The stage contest involved two segments - walk ons and skits. It's hard being a judge! To watch an entire performance and then have to judge multiple factors without the option of replaying. It takes some hard work and some hard choices to be a judge. Overall, I enjoyed working with AlphaNerd Cosplay and Miss Chezza Cosplay as my co-judges. It was an amazing opportunity and I can't wait to judge at future cons! *kiss kiss*
