Where to begin, Emerald City Comicon was a crazy, fast paced convention, gone in the blink of an eye. The few days I spent there were amazing and I got to meet a ton of people and experience a whole new kind of convention. Before you read my experience below, you should check out what my expectations were and how they stacked up against my thoughts on my first International convention! Day 0 I drove in to Seattle from Kamloops on Thursday. It was about a five hour drive, crossing the American border. I was a bit nervous, and for good reason. Going through the American border had like 27 cameras set up and all these contraptions you drive through. It was nuts. I made it to Seattle, and then driving around downtown, in a new city, in apparently rush hour traffic (it was like 2.30pm...) was so stressful - especially with all the one way streets! But I found the hotel, and then found somewhere to park. The hotel was a huge disappointment. I had limited time to find a place nearby to stay within my budget, and this place was so upsetting I wanted to cry. It didn't help that everything that could possibly go wrong that day was going wrong. Fairchild had messaged me saying she would be late because her train was super delayed. She originally was supposed to arrive at 3.50pm, and the new time was 7.20pm! So with such a long delay, I had to go to the con to pick up badges without her. I walked the few blocks up to the convention centre, and the first thing I noticed was everyone trying to sell something just outside the doors. CDs for new bands, Girl Guide cookies, charities upon charities. I've been to a mall before, so I just walk right by, but I definitely wasn't expecting that! After I got my badges, I just followed the masses up the escalators until I found artist alley on the top floor and I just wandered around checking everything out! After a few hours I had seen everything my brain could hold for the day and headed back to the dreaded hotel. Fairchild finally made it and we decided to splurge at the Crab Pot for dinner! It was the perfect pick me up for such a day. Day 1 We had a slow start to the day after a not so great sleep. I was Moon Knight and Fairchild was Domino to match. It was a funny coincidence too since we were both black and white! Fairchild had to go back to the Crab Pot to find her lost credit card (blame the alcohol) so we met up at the convention after she came back. We wandered around, took some pics, got pics taken of us, and check out more cool merch. It's amazing how much you don't see the first time you walk a show floor. We had a break for lunch and then just kept wandering around. We went back to the hotel for a bit. And because of the rain we just went back in casual clothes, and did a bit of shopping! We closed the show down, so we went for dinner at Chipotle. Yay, American food! Oh my gahd! The burrito was huge, but you bet I crushed it! ;) We went back to the hotel and with no tv or wifi, all we could do was shower and go to sleep early and get hyped for Saturday! Watch Fairchild's Friday con vlog! Day 2 Saturday was much the same as Friday. Fairchild even forgot something again! We were half way to the con when she realized she only had her Friday badge on her. So she ran back to the hotel while I shivered my way to the con. I waited for her in the main entrance where people were asking for my photo and I met up with a friend while waiting. Today was a bit more crowded but there was still way more room than I'm used to at a con. Which was a huge relief. I was terrified I was going to break my pauldrons, or someone's face with my pauldrons.... There was tons of cool cosplay on Saturday and it was great because most of the cosplayers hung out in this one area so it was great to meet people and get some cool shots! It was pretty exhausting being on my feet all day and not really being able to sit, so we decided to grab lunch (subway) and head back to the hotel so I could strip and eat! Walking down the street back to the hotel, all of a sudden I feel this sort of relief on my chest. And it all happened so quickly. I realized my chest armor had broke right at the front on the side of the gem! It had popped right open. So I caught it pretty quickly and held it closed while we walked the rest of the way to the hotel, me awkwardly cluctching my boobs... So I decided to change into Moon Knight rather than fixing the breastplate at the time, just in case it happened again. Plus, it was really cold out, and the extra layers of Moon Knight might be nice. So we ate our lunch and then headed back out. The extra layers was definitely nice once we had to line up for the cosplay contest. We were only outside for about ten minutes, and the wind had died down so it wasn't terrible. But I can't imagine standing out there in Jasmine! Once we found seats in the main stage, we were listening to the DJ and just chilling. Someone asks if the seat beside me is taken and I say no, and then realize it was Alana Waffles! Super random and awesome. We chatted a bit and realized through all our passing and interactions online, this was the first time we'd actually met in person. The cosplay contest went fairly quickly, and the hosts were amazing. They filled up time while the judges deliberated with a very entertaining contest. Overall, I didn't agree with the judge's choices for winners, but who am I to say? Everyone on that stage was very talented and it would have been awesome to share the stage with them. After that we went back to the hotel for one more night and then we headed our seperate ways back home in the morning. Crossing the Canada border was so much easier - simple booth with only one camera. Watch Fairchild's Saturday con vlog! It was an awesome convention and an overwhelming experience, in the best way possible. I'm glad I was able to make that trip happen! Now on to new cosplays and exciting adventures!
