Hey guys! Welcome to another #FeatureFriday! Today we chat with Aero, who's a fantastic cosplayer and all around wonderful person. Read her interview below! How and when did you get into cosplay? In early 2015 I was informed by my friends (@myriadtruth and @tinybirbcosplay on Instagram and other places) that they needed a third person to do an Ib cosplay, and I was to be Mary. Mary is super cute and I wore an adorable flower crown. Cosplay was something I always wanted to try and I'm glad I finally got started! How did you come up with your cosplay name? I've had the nickname Aero for a long time, but that name is obviously always taken (as is Aerobar). I was trying to think of a word using Aero and Aerobatical just popped into my head. I actually thought it was a real word at first, and was super surprised after googling it and finding out it wasn't. I think I just ended up mashing together aerobatics and nautical, and I love the sound of it! What do you do when you're not in cosplay or geeking out? I do some rp, and some singing and dancing, and watch anime of course. I'm going to school to become an accountant, which sounds super boring to most people, but I actually enjoy it? Not all accountants are boring ^.^ How do you choose your next cosplay? A few of my cosplays were because someone wanted to do a group cosplay, and I just picked who I liked best from the group. But usually it's just what I feel would be exciting, or who I feel is exciting. Lately I've only been cosplaying not-well-known characters, which means I don't get a lot of pictures taken of my cosplays, but I always have a super fun time just being those characters so I don't really care. Who is your cosplay idol/inspiration? I'd say Dia (@myriadtruth). She's one of the ones who got me into cosplay, and it feels like there's nothing she can't make! She always has an answer when I'm not sure how to do something, and she encourages me to keep going even when I'm not sure I'll succeed. She's going to help me make a cosplay with glowy lights! I wouldn't be the cosplayer I am without her ^.^ What cosplay(s) are you working on right now? Right now I'm working towards Diane from Seven Deadly Sins and Zeno from Akatsuki no Yona. I'm also planning on doing Colvin from Thrilling Intent and a few more versions of Ashe! I want to do a cosplay from Voltron, but I haven't decided on a character yet... What is your dream cosplay? Right now it's the Soul Marionette coord that Rin wears in Aikatsu, because its going to have LED lights in it to make the boots and bracelet and headphones and such glow and look super cool, even if nobody actually recognizes me. What is a random fun fact about you as a cosplayer or one of your cosplays? Until this summer when making Hak and Gregor, I never used a proper sewing pattern to make my cosplays; I used a bit of a pattern to figure out the pattern on Rin's skirt but other than that... I also have no dress form. Also only about 30 pins. I'm surprised my cosplays turned out at all, honestly >.< My friends all day they're going to give me sewing supplies for gifts now! Do you have any cosplay or convention pet peeves? The only thing I can think of is how I procrastinate making/finishing cosplays until the last minute and then it's a scramble to make it in time for cons. I had three months to get rest for the last one and I ended up making two and a half cosplays in 2 weeks. There is some strange curse on cons that says you can't be ready unless it's less than 24 hours before you need the cosplay. Whyyyyy? Do you have any horror stories or mistakes you've made that others can learn from? This is probably reinventing the wheel but: make the sleeves, THEN sew them to the top. NOT the other way around. Also, don't use broadcloth to make any parts of your cosplay that's supposed to be form-fitting, unless you're just using it to make a pattern for a proper, stretch fabric. Do you have anything else you want to say, or add to this interview? Aside from cosplay, I'm starting to do a fashion Friday where sometimes I'll try making a fun outfit out of things from my closet. Also I'm planning on posting some dance (maybe singing if I can get a good mic) videos to YouTube, so please keep an eye out if you're interested in any of those things! Where can we find you on all things social? Tumblr Instagram: @aerobatical Twitter: @aerobatical Youtube What an awesome person! Go check her out on all things social.
