I love when I get to share other Canadian cosplayers. Gotta represent that home land! And this cosplayer is no exception with her bad ass style and skills. Read her full interview below!
I'm Sabrina Barrett Patey, originally from a small town in Newfoundland now living in New Brunswick. I have always been a geek but didn’t really embrace it until my late 20’s. I loves Star Trek and Marvel comics as a child then slowly found anime. I'm an avid xbox gamer. I enjoy Destiny, Black Ops and Dragonage. Also Doctor Who!! DAVID TENNANT I LOVE YOU!!!

How and when did you get into cosplay?
I got into cosplay in 2014 and 2015 after seeing Heroes of Cosplay on tv and being blown away by the concept of it. After attending my first convention, I met some amazingly talented local cosplayers who encouraged me to try it myself. I Started with bought cosplays of the 9th Doctor and River Song. I moved in to foam work after that. I was hooked! My cosplay name comes from my family nickname (Bree) and my last name initial. Kinda boring right??!

What do you do when you're not in cosplay or geeking out?
I work part time for a Bulk food retailer. I'm a very upbeat person so I actually enjoy customer service!!

What is your proudest cosplay accomplishment?
My Sindragosa cosplay! It was designed for the goddess that is Jessica Nigri by Zach Fisher and the minute I saw it, I had to try to make it. It isn’t completely the same but I worked on it the longest, tried so many new techniques and it taught me so much. Sindragosa will always be my BAE

What cosplay(s) are you working on right now?
A mashup of McCree and Harley Quinn and then Light Fury which yet again, was another design Zach Fisher did for Jessica Nigri

Who is your cosplay idol/inspiration?
There are so many! Obviously Nigri, shes bomb.com as well as Riddle (Her work amazes me) but my local friends inspire me the most. They are beyond talented and so supportive. Lanthea Cosplay Jyens Armoury Knightlion Cosplay and LacyLola. They have my back 24/7 and always pick me up when I feel like crap!

With all the negativity in the cosplay community these days, what's a positive message you would like to enforce and encourage others with?
Cosplay is meant to be fun. Don’t let age, race, sex etc dictate how you cosplay. Never be hard on yourself or others because a hobby like cosplay should only ever make you feel good about yourself. And don’t get caught up in the toxicity. Be a positive force in cosplay. Help others, be kind. AKA Don’t be a dick on the internet.

What is your dream cosplay?
I have 2 that I hope one day I will have the skill for. A Drift Suit from Pacific Rim and A Witch Doctor from Diablo 3

What is your favorite convention to attend and why?
I'm kind of bias because I now co ordinate the cosplay side of a local convention called Impossible Realities. It’s a hometown con so it has a place in my heart. Hal-Con in Halifax. I started cosplaying there, made friends there and the cosplay scene is so diverse. Every year the cosplays blow me away.

Do you have any cosplay or convention pet peeves?
My biggest pet peeve is to be blown off by other cosplayers who I am a fan of. It hurts when they believe you are not worth their time. Especially when it is a cosplayer you look up to!

Do you have any horror stories or mistakes you've made that others can learn from?
Always make marks on your foam or worbla so you know exactly where they attach. I damn near ruined a worbla breastplate like that and was completely out of worbla so I couldn’t start over. Luckily a local cosplayer had worbla they were not using and sold it to me. I was on the verge of meltdown. They saved my build that day!

Do you have any tips or words of encouragement for other cosplayers?
Never be afraid of trying new things. You can fail a million times but once you get it right, it is so rewarding. Also, never let anyone say you can’t cosplay! DO WHAT YOU WANT. THEY’RE NOT YOUR MOM!

Do you have anything else you want to say, or add to this interview?
If you ever have cosplay questions, wanna trade dad jokes or you need a sympathetic ear, message me on social media. I am always happy to help

When I first saw my officemates wear costumes at work, I thought maybe they are too old to still be doing that. Then I heard everyone else, young and old have been doing it already. I don't really feel the need to jump in the bandwagon but I learned to appreciate them more. They excel in school and in their workplace and they still have time to design their next entry. It's not easy to plan what to do with your hair and what to wear. When you are trying to copy an anime character, it's very difficult to hide your body mass but some are very good with it.
