Super excited to FINALLY share my girl on the blog!! She's crazy inspiring and adorable and amazing and you need to learn more about her and love her as much as I do. <3 Read the full interview below!
How and when did you get into cosplay?
I have always been into dressing up, my family had run a local haunted house for many years. Where we would design, make and build everything in the haunt. This sparked the creativity in me. I then started to attend local conventions (when cosplay was still not the norm) I would go by myself and dress up in store bought costumes. My friends and family didn’t understand why I loved dressing up as my favourite characters, so I kept it on the down low.
In 2009 I was asked by a local photographer if I wanted to help her complete a concept she had in mind. I was super excited to find out that she was wanting me to dress up as Snow White! I had already owned the costume so it was like it was meant to be. A few months after she finished the shoot I decided that I would dress up more often and embrace my nerd!!!!! That is how my cosplay page came to be.
Picking a cosplay name was super hard, I had 3 people helping me try and figure it out. Till finally I lost my temper being so frustrating and my best friend looked at me and said “awwww your so cute when your angry” so we played off of the word “Cutie” and well I’m from Canada lol and I love comics! So BOOM Canadian Comic Cutie was born ;)
What do you do when you're not in cosplay or geeking out?
I am a jack of all trades I like to say. I don’t have a “day” job. I’m a baker by trade, and do custom orders everything from cakes, cookies, cake pops, cotton candy, chocolate apples and so on! The sky is the limit. I love when I get to make geeky cakes those are my favourite!!!
What is your proudest cosplay accomplishment?
I’ve done many different cosplays in the last 2 years, picking one is hard! With that being said I think my bowser armour would be the one that I busted my butt on and completed in 2 weeks. From start to finish!! It’s a zach fisher design made originally for Ivy Doomkitty. Who I got to meet well wearing the costume this past March!
What cosplay(s) are you working on right now?
I always have something on the go. At this moment, I have a new Wonder Woman costume on the go and I’m excited to complete her. It’s not her normal outfit and that’s why I can’t wait to finish it!
Who is your cosplay idol/inspiration?
I don’t have an “idol” I love finding new cosplayers and watching them create new things! I also love when people, are super positive, and body positive! I could name drop a ton of people but I would feel bad if I left anyone out.
With all the negativity in the cosplay community these days, what's a positive message you would like to enforce and encourage others with?
Cosplay is about dressing up and having fun! I say that you need to keep moving forward, forget about all the negative stuff and stay true to you! Find some people around you who will build you up and not break you down. There are so many amazing people in the cosplay community that help and encourage you.
What is your dream cosplay?
Oh man.... I have always wanted to dress up as hexadecimal from Reboot!!! I’m still a bit unsure about my skill level to do it justice! I’m hoping that with in the next year and a bit I will buckle down and try!
What is your favorite convention to attend and why?
I’ve attend many different conversations, from wizard world Portland, Seattle, Toronto fan expo, Calgary expo, Edmonton Expo, animethon, taste of animethon, and all the local toy shows (not really a convention but same kinda setting) with that being said I think I would have to say calgary expo. It’s not far from home which makes traveling with larger costumes easier, they always have a great celebrity line up, and the weather is usually nice. They have an epic parade called the Parade Of Wonders where you get to see a ton of amazing cosplayers and the opening ceremony for the expo. The energy is amazing!!! If you have never been to Calgary Expo you should!!!!
Do you have any cosplay or convention pet peeves?
Oh my.... do I ever!!! I think my biggest peeve would be “omg your the best ..... I’ve seen all day” I know it may seem silly, but the reason I dislike that wording is because I know making a costume is hard! You may think my costume is great but I’m sure the 30 others in the same costume are just as amazing.
Or when people ask for a picture and touch with out asking. Please remember that you need to ask before you touch even if it’s just an arm around the waist or a hug. More often then not I will allow it if asked. However if you do it with out asking I get upset and annoyed.
Do you have any horror stories or mistakes you've made that others can learn from?
Good gravy!!!! I have a ton of mistakes!!!! I think most cosplayers are scared to admit failure, or to show flaws. With me that’s not the case. I love showing my mistakes, I love embracing my flaws. I think we as humans learn from mistakes and flaws so if I’m hiding them I’ll never learn. I have a few projects coming up where I show my mistakes and how I over came them. Cause why not?
Do you have any tips or words of encouragement for other cosplayers?
Remember the only person preventing you from achieving greatness is you! I say jump in and try! Mistakes will happen, but with that you will learn new skills!!
Do you have anything else you want to say, or add to this interview?
I have RBF (resting bitch face) but I’m pretty approachable. So please if you see me around a con please feel free to say hi!!!!
Where can we find you on all things social?
Go follow this babe on all things social. She's truly a wonder - and not just because she cosplays Wonder Woman. ;)
