Let's kick off the New Year right, with a brand new feature with the lovely Honor Lychee! Read her full interview below.
Hello! My name is Honor Lychee, and I'm a cosplayer from Oklahoma! I've been cosplaying for seven years, and I've guested at conventions all throughout the southern United States. I love cosplay and educating others about cosplay, and I'm honored to be interviewed by the amazing Breezeeweezee Cosplay! Hope you enjoy learning a little more about me!

How and when did you get into cosplay?
I got into cosplay when I was in the sixth grade. I read my still favorite manga, Rozen Maiden, and searched for photos of my favorite character on the internet, and found all these people dressed up like her. I then discovered cosplay, and adored it so much! It made my parents uncomfortable though because of my age, and it wasn't until my freshman year of high school that I got the chance to cosplay for myself.

My cosplay name, Honor Lychee, is actually a long story! I used to admin a lot of Avatar pages on Facebook (remember when those were popular? lol), and some friends and I made a joke about a game we used to play and when we won, would say 'honor regained'. That became my admin name, then it got shortened to just Honor. When I got into cosplay I wanted something a little different, and I really love lychees, and decided upon the name Honor Lychee. It's what I've used for almost 8 years, and I can't see calling myself anything else now.

What do you do when you're not in cosplay or geeking out?
I actually work in a comic book store!

What is your proudest cosplay accomplishment?
Last year I got the opportunity to guest at Dallas Fan Days, and that was just an amazing accomplishment for me.

What cosplay(s) are you working on right now?
Right now I'm working on Raven from Teen Titians!

Who is your cosplay idol/inspiration?
I really look up to Stella Chu. I've looked up for her years, and it's been amazing to see how she's grown and stays herself.

With all the negativity in the cosplay community these days, what's a positive message you would like to enforce and encourage others with?
HAVE FUN. Honestly, that's it. Be yourself, and have fun. If it becomes a chore, or you're not having fun, take a step back and reevaluate and figure out whats wrong. Cosplay is a hobby, and it's supposed to be fun. We need to be uplifting each other and enjoying ourselves.

What is your dream cosplay?
My dream cosplay is Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I have loved Belle since I was young, and I'm scared of it never being able to make it as perfect as I want it to be, which is why its a dream cosplay.

What is your favorite convention to attend and why?
One of my favorite conventions to attend is actually a local event here in Oklahoma called SoCon. It's a small mini convention, but I just always seem to have a fantastic time at this con! It's well organized and I get to spend a lot of time with my friends.

Do you have any cosplay or convention pet peeves?
I think one of my largest pet peeves are conventions that don't compensate their panelists in anyway. I just feel like if they're putting on a part of your convention and investing time into their panel, they should get some sort of compensation for it.
I also dislike people that don't ask before they take photos.

Do you have any tips or words of encouragement for other cosplayers?
Don't give up. Ever. Sometimes the community and others will try to knock you down, but its important to remember that things will get better, and you will keep reaching your dreams and goals if you keep working hard towards them. That hard work will pay off, believe me.

You were so amazing. I love the confidence you are showing to us. When i was still young, I also come to the events of cos players, but I did not get a chance to be a cos player. I love watching them because they have a different kind of being creative. I love how they portray their characters and roles. It is also a form of art for me. I hope that you will be attending your dream convention in order to become a better cos player. Keep up the good work!
