Today we get to feature a talented artist and her cosplaying family all the way from Holland! She uses her cosplay craft as a way to focus and heal. Read her interview below!
How and when did you get into cosplay?
I started cosplay at the end of 2015 I was always a big Halloween fan and loved it so much and found cosplay and got hooked right away. now my whole family joined in, we love to go to conventions and my son is now also starting to help me out with our costumes.
How did you come up with your cosplay name?
It’s my first World of Warcraft Character name and used it ever since.
What do you do when you're not in cosplay or geeking out?
I have my own company Upside Meubels I upcycle furniture. And own my own custom costume business for props as I just love crafting costumes and props. I’m a big CrossFit fan and I work out 4 times a week.
How do you choose your next cosplay?
When I choose my own cosplay, I want to stay as close to myself as possible. like my Astrid costume blond and strong. For our family costumes, I look for groups off 3 usually my sons end up as an animal hahahah. I also try and challenge myself to take every new costume to a new level.
Who is your cosplay idol/inspiration?
I just love Ravenstar cosplay she is such an inspiration love her costumes.
What cosplay(s) are you working on right now?
I’m working on a couple at the moment for my CrossFit team challenge I’m making Viking helmets from How to train your dragon 1 and 2. And working on our Family Cosplay as Guardians of the Galaxy I’m going as Gamora, my son as Rocket and my biggest challenge for my BF as I am Groot clad he’s 2 meters, this one is going to challenge me and can’t wait to finish. Also, I’m constantly upgrading my finished cosplays.
What is your dream cosplay?
That will be Mercy from Overwatch would love to cosplay her.
What is a random fun fact about you as a cosplayer or one of your cosplays?
That it doesn’t matter how old you are that you can always start cosplaying, your never to old I’m 37 ssssshhh
Do you have any cosplay or convention pet peeves?
Guys taking picture’s without asking, I’m always like you can ask me I won’t bite and would love to pose with you.
Do you have any horror stories or mistakes you've made that others can learn from?
I make beginner mistakes and learn from them, like items falling off my costumes from time to time. I always bring a kit with tape, needle and thread and glue so I can fix things, one time at the end of the convention my bf bend over and ripped his whole shoulder pads in half oops.
Do you have anything else you want to say, or add to this interview?
I got in to cosplay for myself and my family joined in, now me and my 6 year old son even craft our cosplays together and he even helps me out with details that I don’t even see, it has definitely brought us and the whole family more together what’s more fun that crafting and going to conventions together as a family.
