Today we're back to the features with a lovely cosplayer that I had the opportunity to cosplay with at this past Calgary Expo. I'm pleased to introduce Noble Actions cosplay! Read her full interview below! Hey there, my name is Alana, my internet/cosplay handle is Noble Actions! How and when did you get into cosplay? I went to Calgary Expo for the first time in 2010, saw all the costumes and was blown away. Later a coworker at the time got me into a group and we ordered our Mighty Morphin Power Ranger costumes, I was pink. I started with buying full costumes with helmets so I could hide who I was. Now I alter different pieces and make others, and usually have my face showing. This community has really brought out a more confident side to me. How did you come up with your cosplay name? I had been using a name on Instagram that had nothing to do with cosplay for so long and people weren't able to find me easily. So I used my last name and Actions, since it covered all my interests easily. What do you do when you're not in cosplay or geeking out? I work in the print industry, I'm training with different machinery, eventually becoming a press operator. I enjoy hiking when I can get out, and snuggling fur babies (cats, dogs, etc). What is your proudest cosplay accomplishment? Probably Gryffindor Warrior costume, completed this year for Calgary Expo. It was a huge peoject, my first with foam armour, and I had a lot of help. My boyfriend helped me make the sword and pattern most of it. Caitlin (CreationsbyCaiti) created the idea, helped with building and primimg, as well as made my hair look incredible. Dara (Dara Def) painted ALL of the armour on a Creative Twitch stream. Marisa (marisasupple) helped with the cape and knee wraps. I felt incredible wearing such a big costume and I want to make more in that style. What cosplay(s) are you working on right now? I have nothing on the go right now, but I found a design for another armoured female I'd like to do and I am constantly revamping my Batwoman Beyond design. Who is your cosplay idol/inspiration? Kamui Cosplay or It's Raining Neon. Kamui is such a craftswoman, I love her books and dogs! It's Raining Neon is the funniest people and she's a one woman act making outfits, mua/hair, shooting and editing her own pics. What is your dream cosplay? There's a lot of *Must Do* costumes, some being: *Every version of Belle from Beauty and the Beast animated *Sleeping Beauty *Batwoman *Re-doing Pink Ranger What is your favorite convention to attend and why? Probably my favourite is Calgary Expo because it's like home. It's the community I've known the longest and where I know the most people. It's a family reunion that brings me to tears some years ❤️ Do you have any cosplay or convention pet peeves? My biggest pet peeve is when someone dresses in costume that lil kids know so well and idolize (Superheroes, Princesses, etc) and they intentionally ignore and are rude to the kids. To kids, they're meeting their favourite character, please represent that character well and make a kid smile. Do you have any horror stories or mistakes you've made that others can learn from? In my Sailor Moon Punk costume, I have these beautiful Demonia knee high boots that I wore for 8hrs that were a touch too small, ended up losing both big toe toenails. Wear comfortable footwear in the correct size, get inserts if you can for support, break them in before wearing them for 10hrs! Do you have any tips or words of encouragement for other cosplayers? If you want to show leg without being uncomfortable (cold or your comfort zone), get nude dance tights. They're thick and opaque, so you keep warm and your legs look Photoshop smooth on camera! Practice posing in the mirror with your costume, and have several poses so you don't freeze up and only have one pose when asked for a photo (I've done this lots whoops!). If you don't know where to start, find a tutorial online! There's enough crafters, there's a chance someone has done it and can save you the trouble. Find a character you love and go for it! It's about a love of fandom, not popularity and we all start somewhere. Do you have anything else you want to say, or add to this interview? It was absolutely lovely being in the Steampunk Disney group with you, I hope we can get the girls together again in the future! Where can we find you on all things social? Instagram: @NobleActions Photos provided by Britany Quinn and Destiny's Curse She's so down to earth and absolutely stunning with a ton of skill just waiting to explode from her fingertips! I can't wait to cosplay with her and see her at cons again.
