Today I get to feature one of my cosplay internet friends, Nicky, aka Run from Walkers Cosplay! She's really talented, and has a diverse range of cosplays. Read her interview below!

How and when did you get into cosplay?
I started cosplaying 3 years ago this October! My very first was Daria and I have been addicted since! I started because of the show hero's of cosplay and Yaya Han. Her skills are absolutely amazing. I really hope one day I can be that good!

How did you come up with your cosplay name?
Well my name on Instagram was runfromwalkers for such a long time that I figured I had to keep going with it!! I have such an obsession with zombies and the walking dead.

What do your friends and family think of your hobby?
My friends and family have been very supportive.  Way more then I actually they would be haha. My coworkers are probably my biggest fans! They ask every day how each project it going, what con is next for me, when's the next photo shoot because they want to see more pictures! My mom has also been my biggest fan, she always helps me find the supplies I need. She's the best!!

If you're still cosplaying in 10+ years, do you think it will have an effect on your cosplay choices, or the characters you choose to portray?
I will definitely still be cosplaying in 10+ years! I feel like my choices will still be the same but I also will get to explore older characters that I really like. Geez I'm showing my age lol. I'm not gonna lie I have always wanted to cosplay Muriel from courage the cowardly dog show!

What do you do when you're not in cosplay or geeking out?
My grown up job is a baker/pasta maker in a restaurant. I actually really love my job, I get to be so creative there! I also really enjoy reading, music and watching movie's. My Sunday night is always movie night with my friends!!

How do you choose your next cosplay?
I tend to choose my cosplays by things I am obsessed with at the time or other times in my life haha. I also go by how much I like a character and how much I relate to them. I related to Lady Diane because I play with my hair when I am nervous just like she does. Gilthunder is just badass and I love his armor!!! Loki and Negan because villains are so much fun!!!!

Who is your cosplay idol/inspiration?
My cosplay idols are Yaya Han, Ivy Doomkitty, Commander Holly! Yaya because of her amazing sewing skill are just out of this world, I actually got to meet her the very first time I attended a comic con! Ivy Doomkitty because of her body positive campaign!  I also was lucky to meet her last year at Rhode Island comic con!  She is so super nice and amazing. She wanted to see my Loki cosplay and thought my use of a princess crown to hold the helmet together was so clever! Commander Holly is such an amazing prop and armor maker! I really hope I can one day meet her! And Ashley Dae, oh man are her sewing skills amazing! Check her stuff out!

What cosplay(s) are you working on right now?
I am working on Gilthunder from the Seven Deadly Sins anime and I am finishing my 3D maneuvering gear for my Hanji Zoe cosplay!
What is your dream cosplay?
My dream cosplay is Mary Sibley from the show Salem. She wears the most amazing, beautiful dresses! If you haven't watch that show I severely suggest you do!!!

What is your dream convention to attend?
Oh man my dream convention is San Diego comic con!  I always see pictures and it just looks amazing!  Tons of talented people on the west coast!! Tickets sell out so fast, maybe one I will get to go and check it off the bucket list!

Do you have any cosplay or convention pet peeves?
I think my biggest pet peeves for cons and cosplay is some cosplayers out there are very rude and act like everyone is beneath them. We are a community and all doing this for the fun, and the love of a character! There is no need for a hierarchy.

Do you have any horror stories or mistakes you've made that others can learn from?
I do not have any regrets yet, my only horror story was posting a photo of my Negan cosplay on an app and the horrible back lash I received made me delete the app and rethink my hobby. Do not let those people win! Be strong and brush them off!

Do you have any tips or words of encouragement for other cosplayers?
My best advice is to not give up on your hobby! It has taken me 3 years to get noticed and out there. Do not give up, these things do not happen over night. And brush the haters off, they are just jealous of how awesome your hobby is! Just keep on being awesome!

Do you have anything else you want to say, or add to this interview?
Hmmm the only other thing I have to add is I'm going to keep practicing and getting better at my craft!

Where can we find you on all things social?
You can find me in Instagram @runfromwalkerscosplay, Twitter @runfromwalkers, and eventually on Facebook once I figure out how to use it hah
Such an amazing person for sharing her stories with us. Go follow her on all things social or drop a comment below.
