Back at it with a great cosplayer, Swipe of a Brush! Read his full interview below! Hey girl hey! I’m matt, from swipeofabrush, I’m a 19 year old cosplayer and wannabe MUA, they three words to describe me are creative, caring, and very over the top, but in a good way aha. How and when did you get into cosplay? I got into cosplay about 5 months ago, but I have always admired the hard work that cosplayers put into a cosplay. It’s amazing to see the talent and creativity that they will put into a character, and I’ve always wanted to do t so I finally decided to start an Instagram page for it and to help with my aspiration to become a makeup artist, I got the name swipe of a brush from how something new can be created with just a swipe of a brush. What do you do when you're not in cosplay or geeking out? As of July 13th I began working as a cashier with Walmart Canada, but in my off time I usually am binging Netflix, and just hanging out honestly I’m pretty boring sometimes aha. What is your proudest cosplay accomplishment? As I’m very new to the cosplay community, I would say my biggest accomplishment is really just putting myself into this amazing community filled with all different types of cosplayers and meeting some amazing friends within this community, it’s really made my life amazing. What cosplay(s) are you working on right now? As of right now I am currently working on white raven from teen titans, zero from the nightmare before christmas, Lydia deetz from beetlejuice the animated series, Linda from bobs burgers, glimmer and she ra from the classic she ra series, Tim Curry’s pennywise and two different looks that lady gag wore in her paparazzi music video (the white catsuit with the black half skirt and poof on the shoulder and the yellow printed catsuit from the end of the video ☺️) Who is your cosplay idol/inspiration? I have a few, just to name a few are obviously @breezeeweezee, @canadiancomiccutie, @shelleyelisecosplay, @maeday_cosplay, and a good friend of mine @li.cos, I get so inspired seeing all the hard work that they all put into there craft, and with any cosplayers at that, it’s so inspiring to me. With all the negativity in the cosplay community these days, what's a positive message you would like to enforce and encourage others with? If you like the cosplay you designed and made, wear it with pride and it doesn’t matter what other people say, cause everyone should be treated with respect and dignity. What is your dream cosplay? This was a tough one but honestly it would be the queen of hearts from Alice in wonderland, cause knowing me I’d wanna have it exactly like the movie with the giant head. What is your favorite convention to attend and why? Calgary comic and entertainment expo, it’s the only convention I’ve been too to date so I have no opinion on any others. Do you have any horror stories or mistakes you've made that others can learn from? One time I was supposed to be going to Edmonton expo, didn’t end up going for other reasons but I thought “I really wanna cosplay poison ivy” so I dug through my fabric and found this old green tablecloth that was Non stretch, and I started tracing a bodysuit shape onto my fabric, cut it out and then proceeded to hot glue, yes HOT GLUE, the bodysuit together, well to make a long story short the bodysuit didn’t fit and frayed away into nothing, and I have not attempted a bodysuit since 😂 Do you have any tips or words of encouragement for other cosplayers? Be adventurous and explore all types of cosplay, and just have fun and enjoy the art of cosplay, the best feeling is knowing that you made the costume and are rocking it, so have fun with it and be creative! :) Do you have anything else you want to say, or add to this interview? Cosplay has changed my life forever, before I went through some very rough patches, and since joining the world of cosplay and meeting such great people who I am happy to call my friends like Breezeeweezee and shelleyelisecosplay it makes my day to be able to wake up and have that constant support in doing what I love to do. :) Where can we find you on all things social? I have an Instagram page and a YouTube channel Instagram: @swipeofabrush Youtube: @swipe of a brush What a great interview! Give him a follow! <3

The rules are pretty simple. If you don't want to listen to what I have to say, all you have to do is shut your ears. No one needed to be a captive audience to anyone. Even so, no one needed to shut up just because somebody doesn't want to listen. The one who refused to listen or accept what you have to say should be the one to leave. I think it's some unwritten rule and I notice that we both apply it. That's another thing we have in common again.
