I'm sure this a problem for most cosplayers; we watch a movie or play a game or catch the latest series on Netflix and instantly love a character or costume design and add it to our cosplay list. The ever growing list never gets smaller as we tackle one build and add five more. So I'm going to show you the costumes I have ready and waiting for a rainy day on my Cosplanner app and give you a little explanation of my thought process on why I wanted to cosplay each character. Read it all below!
When you look at my list, it spans across two full screens on my phone. This is surprisingly low for the average cosplayer. Regardless, you can see I'm only working on a handful at the moment while all the rest lay in waiting.
Let's talk about my #wip builds first. Most of these are common knowledge to my friends and followers. I don't really do secret cosplays.... It's really hard.
I sketched this mashup a few years ago when I was bored at work and really into doodling mashups. I filled a whole notebook with them. I finally decided this spring that I want to bring this mashup to life. It's silly, it's fun, and I love both of the characters. Unfortunately Kamloops + Ebay doesn't mix and I've been waiting ever since for supplies.
Goddess Te Ka
This idea spurred from a brainstorm sesh with Shelley Elise Cosplay. We wanted to do something together but didn't really know what. We ended up thinking of fire and ice queens but she's already planning something similar, and then the idea clicked - it had to be Te Fiti and Te Ka from Moana!! I loved the idea of cosplaying the same character in different forms. This cosplay is slowly being built with all progress shared on Patreon.
*Sigh* I don't even... really know what to say about this guy. He was supposed to be the big build of the year... in 2015. And he's been on hold ever since. I didn't really have the money or skill at the time to develop it any further, but now I feel like I should be able to bring him to the vision I saw for him, but now I'm conflicted with the fact that he's such an outdated character and if he'd truly get the love he deserves if I put in all that time and effort. So he's in limbo. And I have a giant head chilling in the corner of my studio.
Now for all the planned cosplays that are sitting there eagerly awaiting their chance to shine. There's a lot...
Sailor Moon Knight
I've wanted to do this ever since I thought up the mashup - about the same time I drew Mono-Loki. I had asked my boyfriend to draw his version of it, and I drew mine, but then I stumbled upon this gorgeous fan art by reGREENbl on Deviant Art about a year ago and knew it needed to happen. One day. One day it will.
I actually have all the supplies for HIM, but it was planned as a duo cosplay with my BFF as Mojo Jojo but real life has taken her by storm (AKA SHE'S EXPECTING TWINS RIGHT NOW!!!) So he shall sit on the back burner for a while. I guess when the twins are born, three kids = the powerpuff girls....
Sorry, not sorry, but I'm definitely planning neck brace Gwen. I saw Minkyminksc3 do it, and I was obsessed. Begged her to let me copy her. That was over a year ago....
I love Raven. I always have. But I knew I didn't want to do her original version. So I'm working off of an early sketch by NoFlutter but it will definitely include some original flair. Hoping to tackle this costume this summer.
I have a blonde wig that would be perfect for Aurora and I like her casual forest outfit best. It's as simple as that!
My one true love. I don't actually talk about it as much as I used to, but Xena is amazing. I have a pen pal and we gush over her every letter. There's actually a Xenite retreat in California I want to attend one year!! Anyways. Obviously I would love to cosplay her one day.
I only remember a friend telling me on snapchat to cosplay Padme. And me being like; okay. And then I decided on her blue dress because it would be a challenge piece, and I like it.
I just.. love Mei so much.
Apocalypse Moon Knight
SHE'S A GIRL. THIS MOON KNIGHT IS A GIRL. She only lives for about six episodes into the comic, but still. I loved the costume even when I thought it was a dude. But this makes more sense really. I'm excited to work on this costume this summer as well, and hopefully debut it in Edmonton this year.
This is a silly one I'll work on casually. Riley suggested it and then I went crazy with fun ideas. Think: hipster gamer girl. It will be silly.
Lolita Pinky Pie / Slowpoke
I'm not mashing them together, but I just don't have a set plan for the costumes beyond the idea that I could get away with sharing a wig for these characters. My idea for slowpoke I'd love to tackle and handle by this summer for effectiveness, but I'm not overly concerned at this point.
I've always wanted to try my hand at Lolita fashion and I think Pinky Pie would be a good place to start, plus she's my spirit pony. <3
So there you have my list as it stands right now! I'm sure I will add more soon because I'm itching to do some armor builds, plus some easy casual costumes to spike up my inspiration. Stay tuned to my cosplay pages to see what happens first! Thanks for reading, and have a great week.
