So now that we're all caught up on 2015, I wanted to implement a monthly update of what I've been working on. The start of 2016 was off to a fun start with some new and spontaneous cosplans, even a whole weekend of closet cosplays!
This month I have quite a bit on the go. We are T-minus 86 days away from Calgary Expo, and I've been too nervous to work on my Madame Vandersexxx dress mock-up. I need to buy a zipper to finish that properly. I also started making a dress form, but I'm very insecure with my level of experience, and I'm not happy with it.
So I'm stuck in a rut. Mostly because I'm too scared to try and make mistakes. So my goal for this month, is to make a second attempt on my mock-up dress. Even if that's all I do, even if I fail again. As long as I try.
Speaking of Calgary Expo, my Him plans have changed and now I'm developing a pokemon design to wear! I have a few ideas so far, and I did a few quick sketches of my top picks, but I'll have to work with it a bit to see what I'll enjoy the most and will be the easiest to create. So expect to see more of that from me this month!
I've been working on a spontaneous Red Sonja cosplay in January, and the costume is done, I'm just making progress on the sword! This was my first time working with insulation board, as well as using a dremel. I have a feeling that EVA foam would have a nicer finish than the insulation board, but that is an experiment for another day.
I've coated the sword in woodglue about three times per side, and it seems to be smoothing out the rough spots pretty well. I want to do one or two more coats before I take a sander to it. I'll smooth it down level and then do another coat of woodglue to really smooth it out. I'm taking my time with this because it's my first time trying new techniques. I would hate to put all my time and effort into it, just to ruin it. When the sword is completed, I would love to follow in UndeadDu's footsteps and have a winter photo shoot of the She Devil with a Sword. I'm pretty proud of my cape. ;)
Another thing I recently did this month was join the Female Geek Bloggers group. They have weekly writing prompts for "5 Fandom Friday" started by The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick. I'm going to join along when I find a prompt I like and can twist to relate to cosplay! *Cough, cough,* check back next week...
I did my first giveaway on Instagram, and I even started to send letters back and forth with a few internet friends. I'm excited to see how many turn into long term pen pals. I love, love, LOVE getting things in the mail. This is why I have an online shopping addiction.
So if you want to send some letters, or prints, or art back and forth, send me an email and then we'll be best friends in no time!
On top of all that cosplay and blog goodness, I leveled up my nerd status and my girly status! Riley and I made stuff out of Perler beads, and we've started a #PerlerAndPizza date night! We're such dorks, and I love it.
I tried GelMoments nail polish for the first time this month and I was amazed with the results. I finally found a long lasting nail polish that holds up against my industrial career choice! I can work with my hands all day and still feel pretty!
This was a short post, but be sure to follow up with my daily progress on Instagram. See ya next week!
